Effects of Saffron Extract Supplementation on Mood, Well-Being, and Response to a Psychosocial Stressor in Healthy Adults: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Parallel Group, Clinical Trial

Anxiety, stress, and low mood are closely related may contribute to depressive symptoms. Among non-pharmacological solutions improve subclinical symptoms resilience natural products such as saffron—identified promising following preliminary beneficial effects in major disorder—represent a relevant strategy. This study aimed assess the efficacy of 8 weeks' supplementation with 30 mg standardized saffron extract on emotional well-being healthy adults feelings anxiety and/or stress evaluate acute effect response lab-based psychosocial stressor. The adopted double-blind, randomized, parallel groups design which 56 male female individuals (18–54 years) received either or placebo for weeks. Chronic subjective anxiety, were assessed using questionnaire battery [including Profile Mood State-2, (POMS)] stressor measured through psychological physiological parameters. Urinary crocetin levels quantified.
